Search Engine Optimization (SEO) specialists around the globe are celebrating the death of the PageRank, as announced by Google’s John Mueller from Switzerland.
“We are probably not going to be updating it [PageRank] going forward, at least in the Toolbar PageRank,” Mueller said.
Let’s back up—PageRank is, errr, sorry, was an arbitrary ranking feature on the toolbar where website owners could get a (very inaccurate) ranking as to where their site sat in the eyes of Google. The problem with the ranking is that is wasn’t aligned with Google’s actual algorithm. As a result, your site could show up on the first page of Google, but its page rank could be very low, and vice versa.
SEO pros would constantly hear complaints from their clients about a low page rank, even though their site constantly would appear on the first page of the SERP.
